Everett doesn’t come back later on Friday. I assume he’s staying late after today’s practice. I’m still mulling over the call he received, wondering who called him and what they told him about Samantha, that much I could hear. I think that guy from the park that day was a private investigator, maybe he hired him to find out why she left him or could it be something more — a child, maybe? Okay, I’m letting my imagination run wild. Why won’t he confide in me? We have a connection, physical and more. I’d like to be more than just his personal assistant, maybe his confidante, his lover…more.

The following Monday, he finally heads down at Bourbonnais for training camp all week. I’m invited to head down, but with my sister close to having her baby, and I work it out to stay up in the Chicago area.

Plus, Everett’s plants aren’t going to water themselves.

Tuesday comes, and Wednesday passes as well. Cal and Rich want an update, I lie to them and tell them everything’s great here! And no updates, so no point in doing a face to face.

Not a total lie, considering, the messages and calls I’ve made to Everett don’t even have read receipts, and I don’t see or hear from him at all this week.

If there’s any week I actually have been worried about him, it’s this week.

My heart has been fluttering thinking about what a silly idiot I have been in this whole situation.

Going down on your boss? Really, Foster?

It’s been a rough time. Plus, Rachel is out of town on a family vacation, so I don’t get to see her for a little friend therapy.

So in order to cope, on Thursday after work, after I put Eve down for the night, I have myself a bubble bath. I need to try and take a load off. But to say that I’m annoyed that I haven’t heard from Everett for almost an entire week after I gave him the blowjob of his life is more than an understatement.

So I settle in with a nice big glass of wine and a summer book I’ve been meaning to get to, wondering why the hell I put up with shit like this from men like Everett. He did at least say the thing about reciprocating when he gets a chance. But six days and nothing? Really?

My own thoughts are distracting me from reading when Josh texts me.

Josh: What’s up? Sad we didn’t get a chance to hang out this week. What are you up to this weekend?

My heart flutters, and not because of Josh.

It flutters because him asking me what I’m up to this weekend makes me realize that although it’s Thursday and I’d like to do something fun this weekend, the man whom I would like to see hasn’t been returning my texts all week.

After I gave him the blowjob of his life.

I sink down into the water, and my phone buzzes again, but this time with a text from Rachel, asking me what I’m up to tonight.
